If you already are familiar with digital cameras, then one could possibly figure this one out, but instructions basically told you how to open up and charge the battery, nothing about the different modes, and had to go on line to find some adequate instructions. Amazon still has the best deals and pricing for cameras.
The camera would turn on but the screen remained black with just a white blur on the bottom right corner. I paid extra for the camera because I thought it was supposed to be indestructible but I was very wrong. so I just got this one and Olympus came a long way with their products because the 6020 is definitely the only camera I'm going to be using from now on, I have been through two point-and-click cameras in the last few years, this one is by far the best. It is smaller and lighter, and I like doesn't have the telescoping lens sticking out the front.
I am so disappointed, thought I'd taken some lovely pictures but when they were put onto my pc they were all blurred, poor color with no crispness in any of them. Albeit the video recording is good and it is a strong camera with the benefit of being waterproof, but I want it to take pictures!
Since I got the Stylus Tough 6020, I have already crashed while tree skiing, launching it into the snow. It survived the impact with a tree and landing in the slushy wet snow and kept recording the whole time. After the third snorkeling session (camera no deeper than arm's length below the surface) and probably no more than 90 minutes in the water, the Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 camera died. Screen just flashes on and off.
We are thinking of buying another on just for us! The camera is great, just that it didn't come with any real instructions, like most cameras do.
After punishing this poor little camera all summer, I've got to say I am deeply impressed with it. The panorama option is also a phenomenal addition - I have some amazing sunset shots that look seamless thanks to the built in sensor (automatically lines up and takes the next 2 shots for you- all you have to do is move the camera and it does the rest).
This camera is head and shoulders above the other point and shoot cameras for snorkeling, outdoor shots, video in at least a decently lit location, and even indoors within 5 feet of the camera. My favorite setting continues to be - AUTO! The price seems to be drive by the tough features vs quality of pictures and video. I purchased this camera for a trip to the Caribbean. One tech person told me the problem was my iPhoto software and I should contact Apple (I thanked him, and called back to get a more knowledgeable person). After 4 calls and 2 emails to tech support, I still do not know if I need to initialize the camera or not.
It's a little slow at navigating the different scenes and functions, but it's been improving with time. I love how I can drop this camera (super clumsy) and know it will be okay! However, I needed a waterproof camera for work, and this ended up being the only one available immediately in town. I am glad it was. The general close-up mode will use a flash, and I've found it works fine to leave it on when taking regular pictures as well. The super close-up does not allow you to use a flash, but it can take closer pictures. This being said, it has broke twice while using it underwater. The screen will say "no connection" when I try to turn it on.
