Holiday Gadgets - Must-Have Items for your Next Trip Abroad

By Steve Alexander

It's worth considering a few gadgets next time you're packing for that beach holiday in Crete, from the necessity of a camera, to the latest helpful apps to make our holidays that much easier.

Smartphones and iPhones use a lot of battery so portable pocket chargers are a brilliant gadget. You might have bought your audio guidebook, downloaded all your travel apps and cleared space on your phone for taking photos, but all of this can eat through your battery life in a flash. There really is nothing quite as frustrating as having your phone go flat when you're out and about.

In the world of casual photo-taking, digital has overtaken film. Some people stay true to their film cameras, but for most of us, digital is the convenient must-have. The days of buying rolls of film, and waiting for your pictures to be developed once you get back have almost disappeared.

For all the romance of picking up your holiday snaps from the processing shop, there's nothing more heartbreaking than finding those iconic once-in-a-lifetime moments didn't come out so don't take a risk with your valuable memories. Not only can you take more pictures, but you can immediately tell whether you've snapped a dud, and need to take another one.

While we generally carry headphones around with us, portable speakers can be a very handy piece of holiday kit. Most people will have an mp3 player, and more of us have them within our smartphones. Speakers take up such little space, and at the end of the day, music transcends cultures, so share the music. Whether you want to play your favourite tunes in your Paris hotel room as you get ready to go out, play some tunes on a beach in Greece, or you want to share some music with your travelling companions, you'll be glad you brought speakers with you.
