Hookahs - The Fast Growing Trend

By John McCree

Hookahs are commonly used devices to smoke flavorful tobacco. A hookah has a water basin that purifies the smoke prior to inhalation. The origin of hookahs is in the Middle East, where one can still find the best quality hookahs in the world. Hookahs are made in a straightforward method with simple components.

Structure

Fundamentally, smoke produced by the burning tobacco is passed down through the body, the end of which is submerged in the water jar. The smokes comes out of the base of the body and is purified by the water and kept in air chamber above the water. One more positive side effect of the smoke passing through the water is that it is chilled to a temperature much more comfortable for the lungs. At the top left section of the water jar in this diagram is the hose. It isn't fully represented here, but the hose normally extends 1 or more meters. The smoker smokes from the hose by puffing on it. The end result is an extremely satisfying, aromatic, thick, and clean smoke exhaled by the smoker. In general, people smoke hookah while sitting in groups with their close friends on family taking pleasure in their company.

What Is the Smoke Made of?

Generally hookahs are used to smoke shisha, which is flavored tobacco. Shisha, these days contain some or all of the following substances: tobacco, treacle (uncrystallized syrup produced in refining sugar), honey, sugar, molasses, glycerin, nicotine, dried fruit and distilled water.

Shisha is usually fruit flavor based. But offshoots of fruity flavors are now gaining popularity among the smokers and producers likewise. These flavors include Peaches 'n Cream or Banana split, and many others.

The tobacco flavors have become significantly versatile because of the convenience of flavoring at the time of production. The dried tobacco, glycerin, and sweetener can be combined with essentially any other ingredients to create special flavors.

The Original Source of Hookahs

The word "hookah" is derived from the Indian "huqqa", a word that originated around the 1500's when the hookah was first invented by a Persian physician, Abul-Fath Gilani. He produced a system to pass smoke through a water basin to purify the smoke because he was concerned with the health risks of smoking. But, it is conflicted, as some people say that hookah already existed in areas of Persia before Abul-Fath Gilani built it. Whatever the case, the recognition of the hookah grew all through India and Pakistan, westward into Iran, Turkey, and Lebanon. After the hookah arrived at Turkey, its fame increased in the Turkish elite, and it quickly spread through Lebanon and Syria to the remaining Middle East and into northern Africa. Nowadays, it is being used in nearly every country of the globe.

As it journeyed from Persia to the remaining globe, the hookah gained many names.

How Can I Buy A Hookah?

Hookahs can be purchased in physical shops as well as from online shops. Hookah shops have grown with the popularity of hookah bars throughout the U.S. since the turn of the century. Those who live in the more populated towns can certainly find a hookah shop around them. Hookahs are gaining popularity in the U.S., but they are not as popular here as in the Persian Gulf.

If you don't want to wander around in search of a hookah, then you a buy one on the web from a number of shops online that offer top quality hookahs and shishas.

What Are The Health Hazards Connected with Smoking Hookah?

Whether smoking hookah is less hazardous than smoking cigarettes is still not known. While inhaling any sort of smoke into your lungs presents a specific degree of risk, hookah fans claim that hookah smoking is safer because the smoke is cleaner and more purified than cigarette smoke. On the flip side, the people against hookah mention that it has all of the harmful and cancer causing chemicals found in cigarettes. Another factor is that a hookah session may last as long as 1 hour and sometimes even longer while a cigarette goes for just 3-4 minutes. On the other hand hookah seems to be less addictive in comparison with cigarettes.
