The Practicality of the Guayabera

By Dianne Vickers

Weather and temperatures can be pivotal in determining which garments suit us best. Choosing the same garments for winter and summer would be madness, for instance. This is also why you would be mad to put on a parka in the middle of the Sahara.

One should never forget to consider issues of efficiency and comfort. While looking good on the outside is what makes heads turn, feeling good from the inside is as important. You can better preserve your own health this way as well.

This might explain some of the characteristics of warm-country clothing. Their fashion is all about being light on the skin while still offering appropriate coverage. It is vital that travelers coming to these spots also prepare similar garments for their visit.

Tourists often like to don traditional wear in the places they visit. Whether you hail from chilly lands and are visiting warm ones or the other way around, it can be quite an experience either way. Tourists headed to hot places can look forward to nicely breathable textiles and cloths.

Take the beach wedding shirt, for instance. Most tropical countries have a version of this top. A number of places actually refer to it as a Mexican wedding shirt instead.

It may be lightweight, but it can be used for special occasions too. It is, as is made obvious above, a common choice in some countries for wedding attire. It blends comfort with style very effectively.

A good number of tropical and Latin countries have it as the traditional formal garment for men, as a matter of fact. In Cuba, it's been declared as the official formal dress garment for men since 2010. There are no restrictions on who may or may not wear it, and Cubans everywhere usually have several in their wardrobes.

Usually, the type with longer sleeves is favored as formal attire. The preferred formal fabrics are light and often white. Also, it is considered more formal when worn tailor-fit than loose.

One can find so many alternative ways of naming it with a bit of research. Its comfort and versatility lend it to all sorts of traditions. Whether you use it for formal occasions or informal ones, it should be fine.

A final note about the Cuban shirt is that it always has pockets. The Mexican Wedding Shirt typically has four pockets, but it is more formal to have just two; while in other countries, having just one is fine. A bit of ornamentation is usually found on the pockets.
