Getting a Daughter Ready for School

By Jason Larrsohn

Getting a teenager excited to go back to school can be tough. There are many parents that think that their child is just going to hate school, but many parents do not realize that they may be able to help their teenager change their attitude about school and learning while in school.

When you are working on getting your teenager excited to go back to school, you may want to start with some incentives. Getting new school supplies and new equipment to use while in school can be a great way to ensure that your teenager is excited about some aspect of school.

What your daughter is feeling will be real, simply because she is feeling it. Make sure that you validate her feelings and ensure that you are not minimizing what she is going through but that you still make sure that she understands that she is more than her image. While you are talking with your daughter, you may want to find a compromise. Rather than buying all of the trendiest clothes and feeding into the belief that she is only what she wears, you may want to find her a backpack that she is very excited about.

As you learn about your teenager's tastes, you may find that you are able to bond more. While you are talking with your teenager about what he or she wants to purchase, it is important that you are not judgmental when it comes to their style or their preferences.

Taking your daughter to shop with you for her supplies can be a great way to get closer with your daughter. Spend time talking about the upcoming school year and what she is feeling about the school year.

When your daughter is able to have open communication with you, you will be a great resource for her. Being someone that she can talk to will ensure that she has a support system in place and that she knows that she will always have you to go to when she needs you.

As you are shopping, you should make sure that you do not disregard what your daughter likes most. Talk to her about why she likes certain backpacks more than others and you may even want to start talking about what she is expecting from her next year at school.

Although they may not show their excitement, a backpack can be great motivation for going back to school. If they are able to find a backpack that they love, they may be more excited to go back to school and wear the backpack that you were able to purchase together.

While you are searching for teenage backpacks, you will want to be patient with your teenager. You may find that he or she wants to take time to shop through many different stores and it can be time consuming, but it may all be worth it in the long run.

So, the next time that you are getting your teenager back to school do not be afraid to talk to him or her about what she or he wants for school. Finding some way to get your teenager excited about school can be a bonding experience and be beneficial throughout the school year.
