Berlin- What To Do On A Budget

By Adrian Fletcher

Okay, let's face it, taking a trip to Berlin does not come cheap. Just add up how much you will spend for your ticket and accommodation alone. So here are some tips for folks who are in Berlin on a budget. So go ahead and dive right in.

Reichstag

Reichstag, the parliament of the German Empire is another place that you may visit. After it was burnt down in 1933, it was rebuilt with a new contemporary twist. One of the new parts that was added after the fire is the huge glass dome. You can in fact walk to the very top instead of riding the elevator. Unlike the plain old stairs you might imagine, here you have a spiral glass walkway that offers a 360 degree view of the city, complete with viewing platforms for your viewing pleasure. Apart from your camera, just be sure to bring a bottle of water as well.

Berlin Wall

Go and see the Berlin Wall, or at least what is left of it. The longest stretch left of this great wall is the Eastside Gallery. Imagine this part of the wall is now covered in art. Plus, each and every single painting in fact has a meaning or a story behind it. Imagine paintings of famous icons, abstract art, and some graffiti too. Not only because of its historical background anymore, this spot is positively a sight to visit, without even having to spend a single cent.

Holocaust Memorial

One of the things you may do is to walk through the Holocaust Memorial. Even though you have already heard the stories and read up on the history, none of that compares to actually walking through the five acres known as the Holocaust Memorial. Aside from this haunting landscape, you can also check out the underground information center where you can in fact see a list of the names of the recognized victims, along with tributes to over 6 million Jews.

Tiergarten

If you want something that is more relaxing, Tiergarten is certainly the area to be. This area that was once a hunting ground is now one of the most beautiful parks in Germany. You could pack your own lunch and have a little picnic or you could head on to one of the quaint little cafs to enjoy a lazy afternoon. But aside from your food, you won't be charged to enter the park.
