Detecting Obstacles and Unusual Movement with Night Vision Goggles

By Rebecca A. Taylor

One of the coolest and most efficient inventions of the century is definitely the night vision glasses, which take people closer to perfecting their instincts and sensations in situations for which the human body wasn't sufficiently equipped. First used in the Vietnam war by soldiers who were marching during night time and needed to spot enemies in the darkness, the night vision glasses have, nowadays, a wide spectrum of utilizations, either for practical or leisure purposes.

Most night vision glasses operate in two distinct manners. The first type is used for image enhancement and the other one is based on thermal imaging system, but both models are used for detecting movement and objects in complete darkness. The standard model help people see 250 feet in front of them and could come in handy for people who are working, driving or performing different activities during nighttime.

There are many situations when seeing more than just the visible light perceptible by the human eye could be of real help. Aside from the military purpose of these gadgets, the night vision goggles can be very useful for guards and night security personnel that must have a clear and enhanced vision of the entire premises, so that any unusual movement is detected and dealt with on the spot.

Secondly, this type of glasses are very useful for truck drivers that are all night on the road and must stay protected at all times, avoiding road obstacles or accidents. Night driving glasses are specially designed to minimize dark-induced myopia and to reduce glare. Everybody knows how tiresome and stressful it is to drive your car at night and have all those lights from other cars beaming into your eyes, distracting and bothering you. With anti-reflective, resistant night driving glasses, all that stress is significantly reduced and you can remain focused on the road.

Night vision goggles are also perfect for outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking or hunting during nighttime. Climbers and mountaineers are at the same time protected against wild animals, since they can spot them in the darkness and take precaution measures in due time and they can also move faster and easier through woods, where paths are hard to distinguish at night.

No matter if you are performing activities during night time or not, night vision goggles are at least a very interesting and exciting item to own. It could come in handy while driving, hunting or camping, but they can also be used for leisure purposes.
