Home Owners Need To Consider Buying Sash Windows Because They Are Unsurpassed

By Andrew Denangle

Sash windows comprise of movable parts called sashes. The sashes are responsible for holding glasses in a vertical or horizontal position. The windows are also called hung sash, and usually slide when opening or closing. The technology developed first from the inventions of Robert Hooke.

This technology was first introduced in England at Ham House. It later moved to different parts of Europe as more people welcomed the idea. This invention is found more in Georgian and Victorian houses. The houses used the technology by using six panels of glasses. The glasses were symmetrically arranged to bring out the desired finish. Security of families is certain when such an invention is used.

Sash windows have springs or other strong materials that hold them securely. This helps it to move in any location with ease. The average size of a sash depends on the needs of users. Commonly there are those that are less than one meter, but a big size is desirable in public places to have a better view. Many churches in England currently use materials that are more than two meters long to ensure brightness.

To aid the overall operation, the weight of the panel is fitted with heavy metal like steel. This is done to make the window frame operate without any breakage. The weight is often linked to the sash windows by a long cord that is fitted with a pulley on top of the frame. When pulleys are not available, spring balances are used instead.

This kind of invention is very crucial because it provides users with many advantages when in use. The technology allows any family member to open one side and close the other to increase escape of hot air from the house. Another different side can also be opened to increase the inflow of fresh air from outside to the room. Users of this technology confirm that it is easy and always gives them different options.

Currently there are different companies that are producing the materials. Such companies also have their own engineers who patronize the houses of people to fix breakages. Users are constantly advised by these companies to remind their children to open and close their windows slowly to avoid breakages. Oil is used to lubricate the corners where hinges are fitted. This is necessary as it reduces friction when operating the panes.

This technology allows hinges to be placed on only one side of the window. This helps the other side to move freely when opening and closing the windows. The open ended side is necessary as it acts as an escape route during fires and other different hazards. People can also use the open side to maintain cleanliness of the whole area without moving from one position to another. In the United States people refer this technology as hung sash because their windows are always big. The large sizes are advantageous because they allow increased air when they are opened.

Most home owners use softwood instead of glass because it is a cheap material. The only disadvantage of using softwood is that they rot easily when in contact with water and other adverse weather. During hot weather, the wood swells and distorts the overall design of the woodwork. Paint applied in the wood also gets off in the event of rain. This gives a false finish of the overall technology.

The glasses and panes require high maintenance to keep them in operation for long periods. They are advantageous as they keep the house they are fitted on look bright and beautiful. Cleaning is easy as they can be moved in any direction. This gives the cleaner the advantage of standing in one position and doing all the cleaning work.

PVC materials are currently used instead of wood and glass. Users of this material argue that PVC is strong as glass and wood but is less costly and does not have any wear and tear. The materials are often fitted without adding any paint or vanish to it, and this gives less work to users. Safety of individuals is often known to be a reality when using sashes.

Sash windows are preferred by most people because they provide enough cooling during hot weather. They also allow both top and bottom areas to open easily. Warm air that is concentrated at the top of the building usually escapes through the top area of a house. The bottom area allows for fresh air to enter the house and give fresh air to the inhabitants.
