Assorted Types Of Coffee Machines

By Peter Davis

Coffee is a popular drink across the world. It may be served hot or cold, and with or without added ingredients. There are many types of coffee machines available. Some of these appliances are known to change the flavor or overall essence of the drink.

There are at least six appliances that are most commonly used to brew this drink. Filter or drip machines come with filters that are mesh: metal or paper. These machines will drop the heated water onto the grounds, which are held in a filter. The hot liquid will filter through and fall in a glass pot that is situated below. Typically this pot is on a heated plate that keeps the drink hot. These units come in varying sizes that allow for small or large servings.

Bean cup machines are composed of three things: brewing chamber, bean hoper and grinder. These devices can grind 6-15g of beans, depending on the desire of a user. The grounds are then brewed in the chamber and released into a liquid through a dispenser. Grounds that have been used are pushed into a special tray, which is to be emptied on a regular basis.

Another device that may be used is the pod units. These structures utilize capsules or pods that have enough grounds in them to serve one cup. Pods are put inside the machine and water is forced through them. Once the drink has been finished, it flows through the dispenser and goes into the pot.

Cafetieres, also known as French presses, are considered easy to use. Grounds are put in the bottom of the glass carafe and boiling hot water is poured on top. A metal plunger that has a filter attached and is fitted to the top portion of the carafe is then used. The individual must push the plunger down, which also pushes grounds down so that they are contained at the bottom. The finished beverage can then be poured directly from the carafe into the drinking cup.

Percolators are considered manual machines. The grounds are placed at the top chamber and then water is placed in the bottom chamber. The percolator is then placed on a stove to heat the water. Electric versions are available and do not require this step. Once the water has boiled, steam comes out through the filter, which will brew grounds and condense at the top. It then drips back down to the bottom as the completed beverage.

Espresso machines are used to make this beverage as well. These come in three models: pump, lever or piston. The pump makers employ an electric pump to force water through grounds and into the cup. This is what is typically used in espresso bars and most homes. Piston or level models give the user complete control. They decide on how much water pressure to put through these grounds by using a lever that is attached to a piston.

There are so many types of coffee machines from which to choose. Coffee is a popular drink in many countries around the world. The type of machine may impact the flavor or quality of the finished brew.
