Subwoofers - The Natural Choice For Music Lovers

By Lee Huwen

To an entire generation of music lovers, music to them sounds tinny and weak. With modern phones and mp3 players making up such a large market share of musical players, many young people have never heard proper bass with their music and that can only be a sad state of affairs. Imagine watching a blockbuster movie without color - wouldn't be the full experience would it? That's where subwoofers come in..

Enter the subwoofer

If you've only listened to music on your portable players or through your modern flat screen television, you've never heard decent bass because none of these systems can reproduce it sufficiently - even several thousand dollar televisions struggle. But what the speakers in these systems can't handle, subwoofers have been designed especially to pick up.

When you're listening to music you only get the full experience when you have treble, mid-range and bass combined. Bass is even more prevalent in today's music as can be seen by the specific musical genre of drum and bass.

But bass can't be faithfully reproduced in many of today's gadgets, as even with modern technology, nobody has yet figured out a way to produced superb low-end frequency from a small enclosure, that's why bass speakers always take up more space than conventional models and why music on the go and even in modern televisions still retains that tinny quality.

If you're worried about bass subwoofers costing a small fortune, you've no need to worry. You can put the bass back in your musical world, which may include listening to music through stereo systems, televisions, games consoles and even iPhone docks, without breaking the bank.

Quality brands

Prices for these bass speakers can vary and will depend on brand, model, output and power, but you'll be pleased to hear that just $200 will secure a very good model and for even less than half of that you can still grab a bargain.

Models from Yamaha, Polk and BIC

The Yamaha YST-FSW050BL2 is a quality bass speaker that incorporates green technology in the form of power saving modes. These modes kick in when loud bass moments occur in films and songs, thereby conserving electricity and preventing the sound from becoming uncomfortably loud. It can be picked up for as little as $115, so sits within the budget of most.

The super small Polk PSW1 provides superb performance despite its modest dimensions and is no slouch in low level frequency reproduction. A special tonal balance helps to accurately portray all the tones in the bass range. Usually this speaker retails at over $200, but Amazon occasionally have deals on when it can be bought for less than $100.

The BIC America F12 is a 12 inch speaker and improves bass levels by up to 100 per cent over 9 and 10 inch models. The larger casing allows more room for bass distortion recovery and the low-end levels are unrivalled in this price bracket - currently fetching $230, which is below half price!

High quality subwoofers can bring back that cinema experience to your own home and for a fraction of the cost of their setups. If you're serious about music, then you need to start getting serious about these speakers.
