Where To Go On Your Trip To Los Angeles

By Kathleen Burch

Los Angeles is a city that's difficult to navigate, especially if you're a tourist. L.A. may be a huge city with a lot of famous (and not-so-famous) residents, but it is not the ground zero for most of their activities per se. Cities such as Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach all surround Los Angeles, and these and other famous cities would be the hub of activity for many people who call L.A. their home. And how could we neglect to mention Anaheim, where you can find the world-famous Disneyland? If you're visiting Los Angeles for your next vacation, it's best if you stay in one of the cities to get more fun out of your trip.

Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills is known for celebrities and remarkable mansions where the rich and famous reside. You can visit the hotels the stars frequent and go shopping, maybe side-by-side with a favorite actor or actress! You get sunshine all year round in Beverly Hills and while you may not actually afford one of the gorgeous homes in this locale, you can still enjoy looking at them!

West Hollywood

Home of the world-famous Sunset Strip, West Hollywood is a unique cultural center that's close to the other parts of L.A., too. The Sunset Strip is still a great place to go dining, shopping and partying, and some of the night spots are the 'stuff of legend', so to say. For those who love the arts and graphic design, West Hollywood will be where you can find the Pacific Design Center, among hundreds of showrooms and art galleries which all have something for everybody.

Santa Monica

Santa Monica is probably one of the most beautiful areas around Los Angeles, boasting an astounding beachside location, great night life and plenty of celebrities frequenting the area's restaurants and bars. Park at your own risk as you prepare for a night of dancing, drinking and dining in this city -- take note a lot of the night spots are very popular! You can easily get past this problem by taking a taxi or hiring a limousine.

Contrary to popular opinion, limousines are quite inexpensive forms of transportation in Los Angeles, so hesitate not to take one as your mode of travel around the city. Limousine companies in L.A. usually charge per hour. If you want to get the best prices, check with a couple of limousine companies for their rates. And if you book your limousine a couple of days in advance you may be able to get a good rate.

Manhattan Beach

A three-mile drive from Los Angeles International Airport, Manhattan Beach is the fourth on our list of top destinations near L.A. Go fishing at the pier, all 928 feet of it -- it's located at the end of Manhattan Beach Boulevard and offers wonderful fishing all year round. The pier also has an aquarium and marine studies lab, free to the public.

Anaheim

If you're traveling with your family, visit Anaheim, about an hour south of Los Angeles. Here you will find Disneyland, the jewel in Disney's Southern California crown. Feel free to revisit your inner child while your children get to meet their favorite Disney characters and enjoy the old-school classic charm of Space Mountain and other rides. And don't forget to watch the parade and fireworks display at night.
