If you need a hotel room, and the hotel is booked solid, see if they will let you stay in a room that is not in service. These out of service rooms are rooms that require minor maintenance such as repainting the walls or cleaning a stain on the carpet.

When you are flying, you have to make sure to plan ahead even before you get to the airport. Airports are often located near large cities, and reaching them during peak traffic times of the day can take much longer then you might expect. Always have your suitcase packed the night before your flight. To reduce your flight anxiety, prepare for your trip well in advance. Not making your flight will cost you time and money.

Pack travel candles in your luggage if you plan on staying at a hotel. This can make your room smell a bit better. Using the same scent you would use at home, may help you go to sleep more quickly in an unfamiliar place. There are many candle options available that are small and the wax is contained to prevent wax from causing damage.

It's important to tip the housekeeper and bell station well. For these services, a good tip for housekeeping would be from $2-$5 per day, and $1 per bag of luggage. If you can tip these people appropriately, you will find that you will have a better relationship with the hotel staff during your stay.

A surprisingly large number of airports have play areas, and they can help your children pass the time between flights. If the airport has resources for children it will make a delay, of any length, much more enjoyable for the whole family.

Don't forget to check your passports' expiration dates. A lot of countries have certain rules concerning passports. You are usually not allowed to enter a country if your passport expires soon. As long as the passport is not set to expire within the next six months, you should be fine for most countries; however, certain countries require eight months, or even up to one year.

When you enter a new country, avoid exchanging currency. A better option exists to get your hands on the local currency. You can obtain the foreign currency from an ATM in a bank. These machines will usually have the best exchange rate available.

Clothing in dark colors tend to pack and travel well, especially when it comes to trousers and dresses. Darker clothing is better at hiding wrinkles and dirt, and both of those are common when traveling for an extended period of time. You can wear bright accessories to liven up the darker clothes.

These tips were designed to give you good insight on getting started with your own traveling adventure. Whether you are a novice traveler, or a seasoned professional, you will be able to incorporate some of this advice into your next travel preparations!
