Cruise Reviews Are Essential Guides

By Don Trank

Are you thinking about taking a cruise? Before you run off and buy a ticket on the first cruise line you can think of, take a minute and learn a little about the different cruise lines. The major cruise lines are: Carnival, MSC, Norwegian Cruise Line, Costa Cruise, Princess, and Royal Caribbean. Reading a cruise review on each of these cruise lines will help you make the right decision when it comes to your next vacation.

Short Cruise Reviews

Carnival Cruise Lines has been a big name in the cruise industry for decades. Carnival started back in 1972. It is operated out of Florida. Many people are familiar with the Carnival Destiny. This was the first of it kind: a passenger cruise ship larger than 10,000 tons. Innovations like this have helped Carnival maintain the edge on competition. Carnival's huge cruise ships offer a diverse array of activities onboard. They have pools, spas, and exercise facilities, just to name a few.

Perhaps the oldest major player in the cruise industry is Costa Cruise Lines. This company came into existence in the mid eighteen hundreds. Now it has the largest modern cruise fleet in Europe. It continues to expand too. Costa maintains a progressive ship building program and launches new vessels at a surprising rate. Costa has launched several new vessels in the last decade.

MSC is a cruise line operating out of Italy. Founded in 1990, MSC is only just becoming known in North America. MSC stands apart from the competition because its ships have a more classic feel. These ships generally have beautiful antique interiors featuring lots of marble, brass, and wood. MSC is expanding too. With the addition of the MSC Armonia and MSC Opera in the year 2004, MSC offers a great alternative to competing cruise lines.

Norwegian Cruise Line is another worth reading about in a cruise review. NCL took the cruise industry by storm after its establishment in 1966. Within just five years, it added four new ships to its first, giving it an impressive fleet of cruise ships. Now NCL is owned by a the Malaysian cruise company, Star Cruises.

Princess Cruise Lines is well known because two of its ships were featured on a popular television show, "The Love Boat." Until just a few years ago these two ships, the Island Princess and the Pacific Princess, were active members of the Princess fleet. However, there are many more aptly named ships in the Princess fleet. Princess Cruise Lines was purchased Carnival earlier this decade. However, it still operates as a distinct brand with its own flavor.

No cruise review would forget to mention Royal Caribbean International. This is one of the more popular cruise lines, especially for middle class Americans. Royal Caribbean features many onboard activities and a host of travel packages, making it a popular choice for many.
