How To Guide Your Brand New Pup Easily

By Linda Baker

New pets are great when you first get them, but it's important to remember that animals need attention and love. As many people can tell you, getting a pet is a lifetime commitment, not a present for the holidays. A puppy can bring lots of happy memories and times but they have a lot of training and work involved to, they are not all fun and no work!

Both the breed and method in which it was raised will determine the demeanor of a puppy. Breeds of guard dogs, such as Rottweilers, bull dogs, and boxers are in general very loving of their families and are extremely protective. Border and Bearded collies are natural herding dogs with tons of energy so the are great dogs for a farm (You should realize that their rural upbringing might make them skittish around big city noises and structures). Hunting dogs such as Labradors and pointers have an infectious enthusiasm that will make you love their company. These are just general expectations; the dog's personality plays a large part as well.

Depending on how much time and attention you spend on training, you can achieve success in a few weeks training your puppies. This doesn't have to be an endlessly grueling training process because you can actually get good results with sessions that only last a few minutes at a time. Once you have brought your new puppy home, you should immediately start training him in obedience with simple commands like sit, stay, and fetch. When your puppy starts to get older, you will enjoy teaching it commands like rolling over and playing dead. Training a young puppy is not as hard as you may think as they are like a blank sheet of paper waiting to be written on. The way and things that they are taught will stick to them and will influence them later on in life, although training isn't forever so you need spend a few minutes every day just to keep reminding them what to do.

Failing to properly train your puppy will come back to haunt you, your house may be turned into a toilet and your furniture will suffer. Puppies are not born knowing the difference between right and wrong, so you must teach them what you expect of them.

Many handlers experienced or in-experienced are turning towards training products and aids but training can be done without these methods, just a bit of good old hard work! Training your puppy is a lot of work but the reward, a well trained dog, is worth it. It is important that you continually reinforce your training otherwise your dog will forget it. Training an older dog is more difficult.
