Tips on How to Spend Less on Hitting the Waves Every Day

By Kurt Burnette

Are you going on a trip to the beach soon? You are probably trying to find ways on how to save money with surfing. It's not a cheap hobby, but if you plan your trip in advance, and stick to your budget, you will be able to save a lot of money regardless.

Instead of trying to travel half around the world to go surfing, try looking for popular spots near where you live. The coasts of Hawaii probably sound like heaven to you, but the thing is that Hawaii is extremely expensive and harbors several tourist traps. If you use the internet to your advantage, you can search for beaches closer to you instead of going to touristy spots.

Though, if you have the cash saved and you decide you want to go to another city, there are definitely ways you can still save. Try looking up information on the different surf camps that are located near popular spots, so you don't have to stay at an inn. Also make a list of things that you'll need on your trip, like combs, water bottles, and toiletries, and buy them before you go or else you will have to spend more money than you have to at a tourist spot.

Maybe you don't own a tent and you don't want to buy. If you do not mind it, try sleeping in the car. If you'd rather stay inside the city, maybe try to stay at motels rather than expensive hotels.

For those that don't wish to drive to surf spots, you can either travel via train or via airplane. For those that want to fly, be sure to look up the baggage fees in advance. Transporting surfboards isn't usually that cheap, so make sure that you figure out which airlines charge the cheapest rates, avoiding those that charge extremely high fees. Call ahead if you aren't sure to avoid any surprise fees at the airport.

You can also always rent a board if you don't own one. There are many places that will let you rent one, and that will be probably be cheaper if you don't plan on surfing a whole lot. Though, for those that decide they love going, try looking for a board on the internet, because it's most likely going to be cheapest there. Or, alternatively, you can try looking through second hand stores for the best price.

When thinking about how to save money with surfing, be sure to plan in advance so you don't end up spending any money on unnecessary things. Be safe and enjoy the waves!
