Am I Depressed - Transforming to a Lifetime That is Free

By Burton Rager

There are numerous evidence of depression. To some it is like living life in a box that keeps homing in on you; to others it is like you have on sun shades and your world is getting darker and darker; to others it is where daily jobs become simply impossible to perform and you're feeling completely dead.

Many of us have faced some kind of depression in our lives, but many of us may deal with depression on a consistent basis. For those who do, the manifestations of depression can be life changing.

At some point many of us will either experience the impact of depression, or will have a personal relationship with someone who is dealing with depression.

Am I Depressed?

Depression often shows itself, even at the beginning, with symptoms and signs that are easy to recognize. If you find yourself in a long-lasting period of sadness and feeling dead, or it gets hard to handle ordinary activities and living life takes on an appearance of darkness, you could have your answer to "Am I Depressed?"

Other signs are: decision making becomes very unlikely, difficulty sleeping or oversleeping, lethargy and absence of incentive, pessimism, being totally exhausted, dejection sets in, either not eating or overeating, endless troubling, and even thoughts of suicide.

If you can answer yes to even a few of these symptoms, the start of a lingering grapple with depression might be well on its way. Not a list to live life by. Look at the definition of depression:

The first definition is a condition of psychological disturbance, often with a general lack of energy and trouble in maintaining concentration or interest in life.

The second definition shows a far more harsh form of depression: dreadful despondency and dejection, accompanied by sensations of hopelessness and incompetency. Frequently referred to as clinical depression. It can be caused by hormone imbalance, brain dysfunction, or other medical conditions. Individuals who suffer from clinical depression need help from specially trained medical doctors and Christian advisors.

Godly Perspective

Do you believe God made you? If you answered yes, and you are facing depression, you can wonder whether something must be dramatically wrong. First let me stress that there are numerous Christians, folk in the Bible, and non Christians who deal with depression; it touches all walks of life. Steadfast folk aren't immune to depression.

Being depressed does not mean God is mad at you, nor it is because of a lack of religion. It also does not necessarily imply you are not saved, or don't love God, or a thousand other statements folks will make. Please put all of that to rest. There are sufficient stigmas attached to anyone who has depression already, and they do not need a larger burden. They need their burden lifted.

Don't Be Surprised

We frequently think that distressing trials, such as being depressed, shouldn't be part of our life. If they are there must something significantly wrong. This verse can be very freeing because God is informing us not to be confounded, nor is it strange if we are experiencing suffering or discomfort in our life.

Dear friends, do not be shocked at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you.
