The Toyota Prius Stands Out As The Standard Bearer For Hybrid Cars

By Charles G. Harper

Toyota has been one of the major car makers for a long time. Toyota continues to reign in the automotive community as they introduced their hybrid vehicles. The Prius is the standard-bearer of hybrids, and currently on its third generation, while a lot of car companies haven't even produced their first. The reasonable price and great fuel-efficiency has made the Prius four-door hybrid a number one choice for consumers. In addition, Prius has become the best in terms of low tailpipe emissions. Hybrid vehicles employ a combination of electric motor and internal combustion engine that's powered by gas. This design is what allows this hybrid to experience lower emissions than regular cars, along with a much higher fuel economy. To add more class and durability, use giovanna wheels.

Toyota founded their reputation on reliability and continues to achieve this with the Prius. The hybrid cars by Toyota continue to be exceptional value although they are used. At first, there were some worries about the car's durability, but so far they have been not a very big issue. The only draw back is, due to its complex engine, the cost of future repairs could possibly be high. Design-wise, the Prius has not changed considerably as it will always be a four-door hatchback.

The Prius' powertrain comprises a 1.8 liter fuel engine that produces 98 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque. The gas motor is being assisted by two electric motors along with a variable transmission. At optimum acceleration, the full power is produced from both the gas-powered motor and the two electric motors. Fuel-efficiency is maximized in stop and go traffic by running on electrical power without recourse to the traditional gasoline engine. The Prius is able to do this considering that the battery charges anytime you step on the brake pedal.

On the highway, the new Prius has significantly better pick-up compared to earlier designs, but still lags from traffic stomps. Toyota was able to boost the fuel economy to virtually 50 miles per gallon. Other improvements have been made by the latest model, primarily to the interior, with a more conventional center control stack. The system display is now located next to the digital speedometer and is higher up on the dash. The audio system and climate controls now have normal buttons rather than a touchscreen. The automobile has been made less of a pain for bigger people because of the telescoping steering wheel, and adjustable seat. In spite of its size, the Prius is fairly roomy and offers plenty of cargo space.

Toyota continues to make the Prius a great automobile with good fuel economy and versatility. The Prius stop being a novelty considering that it drives much like a traditional car. There are other sorts of hybrids that will be worth considering, such as the less expensive, Honda Insight, but the Toyota Prius is still the standard.
