I wouldn't bother with Windows own. I don't know if it's still true, but Diskeeper used to be the company that provided Microsoft with its basic defragger tool - basically a crippled version of the real thing, what marketing people call "aspirational" (it looks great on paper, but it doesn't yet or never will work). Whenever your computer is idle a scan runs. I'm sure it grabs some resources, but in today's era of high-powered personal computers, it's not a problem. I'm glad I bought it. The UI is impressively easy to use. It's still very fast light on resources, with an extremely good protection. Been running it for a couple months and wouldn't even know it was there except for two or three times that it notified me of an unsafe website or potential hack. Also very easy to select e-mail addresses as 'spam' which it sends to the 'junk' e-mail folder for deletion. Norton even has a special Facebook App so you can be certain that you will not pick up one of those nasty viral things. I give this product 5 stars.
Shame on you Symantec! I have been using Norton Antivirus/Internet security for years now (on 3 PCs running XP) and the big turnaround for the past few years with 'light' software has been great.
Norton quality combined with Amazon great price and service can't be beat. I've stuck with Norton through all its ups and downs for over 15 years now.
You can e-mail, chat and surf the web without worrying about getting hit by malware or getting your system hacked. The best thing I liked about the software is that it is always getting updated every 5-15 minutes instead of once or twice a week like some of the other programs out there and that is the key to safety in my opinion as cyber thieves do not stop and take a break. Good bargain for your money. Cost a lot less than buying directly from Symantec.
Man read my problem asked for permission to take control of my computer and then started trouble shooting. Could not find any problem so down-loaded and installed program from his site. I cannot start this computer at all now. Tried safe mode, tried loading from disk...nothing works. Definitely don't even consider buying this until the problem is known to be fixed. I always use to hate Norton antivirus products until a couple years ago when I read excellent reviews about their Internet Security package. A Full System Scan on my system, which includes a 160 GB and a 1 TB network drive, took over 4 hours. But what the Full System Scan lack in scan speeds it makes up for in its low demand on system resources.
I'd highly recommend it, especially over the trash free ware out there :) It's not expensive (unless you buy direct from Norton), easy to use, light, and fast, what more could you ask for? As it stands, it makes more sense to buy a whole new box rather than renew your old one.
