Fall Has Arrived in the World of Shoes

By Shirley Applegate

If you head out to New York for Fashion Week runway shows or make a trip to a more luxurious city like Milan, Paris, or Beijing to see their shows, you will notice that that the seasons are off. What you see parading the runway is always a couple seasons ahead so fashion industry pros can see what is coming up in the future and get prepared. This means you can go in spring and see what shoes will be hot in the fall.

Once you watch a runway show and pay attention the model's feet, you see why shoes are so addictive for many women. Right now the shoes going down the runway for fall 2011 are highly unique. They stand out in a bold way and have interesting features. Lanvin and Givenchy have booties worth taking out a loan for and Stella McCartney is hitting the runway hard with shoes destined to create more addicts.

Pleasant Dilemma

Fashion Week shows this season really put on a show with an array of bold colors, tantalizing patterns, and accessories that make you want to shop in the moment. This means sidewalks will be lit up this fall by thin heels adorned with straps and boots in wild, bold patterns and colors. There are even some nice flats coming out to make sure your step is safe on those cold, icy mornings.

There is a noticeable intertwine of strong, bold designs and extremely feminine designs. It's as if the best designers couldn't decide which way to go. The Alexander Wang show is the perfect example of this. His models were powerful in tall black boots only to be followed by the whisper of kitten heeled shoes that almost disappeared into the runway.

Mixing Bold with Femininity

Chlo is a great example of the strong femininity coming out in the shoe world right now. Her fall line is going to add strength and unique features to very womanly shoes. For instance, there are textured heels that look dainty and sexy, but they are made strong with snake skin down the heel. Black patent pumps are given a girlish flair by the addition of a large bow. She is also putting out chunky heels with ankle straps that mimic summer and muted colors that make shoes look like paintings.

Givenchy... Proeza Schouler... Thakoon...

Boots are definitely on tap from your favorite haute couture designers this fall. Look for sandals trimmed in fur and metallic pumps that really grab attention. Platforms and wedges will also be available along with an endless variety of boots. From flat boots to kitten heeled boots and adorable booties, it will be hard to pick out just one pair of boots this year. You will definitely need something for all lengths, ranging from low ankle boots to mid-thigh boots for those naughty nights.

What colors will you find hitting the fall market? It's all about practicality this year, so look for lots of nude and beige colors with lots of black and white. Colors you just can't do without are going to be hot this fall.

Do you like stepping out in shoes that are bold and unexpected? If so, you are going to love the designers playing tribute to the future this fall. There are some amazing silver, black and gold boots that look like they belong a couple light years ahead of our time. Designers are playing with zippers, buckles and unusual angles that give these boots (and some booties) an out-of-this-world look.

Summer may not be in full force just yet, but in the shoe world fall is just around the corner. Get ready to see what's new from your favorite designers.
