Make Traveling Simple: Advice To Help You Have A Great Trip

By Steve Brian

When you choose to travel, whether it is for business or pleasure, it is important to plan your trip well before hand. Here are some tips to help you.

Peruse the blogosphere. Bloggers are everywhere, and there is most likely one, if not many, bloggers blogging about your destination. Their blogs are a great resource for finding information about hidden gems of the city--restaurants, hotels, attractions, and more. Don't be shy. If you contact them, many will be happy to answer your specific questions as well.

Bring a dry erase board and markers with you when you are traveling on a cruise ship. Put these items up on your door; you will now have an easier time identifying your room, and your family can write notes on it to tell you where they are going. Prepare the dry erase board before you leave for the trip by gluing magnets to the back of it.

You should start packing in advance so that you do not forget anything and have time to determine what you will need. Do not bring anything unnecessary: you could use all the room in your luggage for things you will actually use. Try packing one bag only if you can.

To save money when booking airline flights, check the round-trip prices -- even if you only want to fly one way to a destination. Thanks to quirky airline policies, sometimes it's less expensive to purchase a round trip to your desired locale than to fly one way. At least if that happens, you can save money by buying the round-trip tickets anyway and simply not take the return flight back.

If you have plans to travel, the most important preparation you should do is make a checklist of everything you need from toiletries to extra articles of clothing. Before you leave, make sure that all of these items are packed because most likely if you forget something, the gift shops available to you will overcharge for simple things such as toothpaste or shampoo.

Never put important medication, electronics, or documents into your checked baggage! If something is important or would cause serious problems if it were lost, make sure it stays with your carry-on bag, and keep a close eye on it while going through security. You're always better off safe than sorry.

Travel is not always expensive especially if you know how to do it right. By purchasing bread and cold cuts at a supermarket you can make yourself sandwiches for during the days lunch. Also there are many very nice hostels which have prices that are much better than any hotel you can find.

Avoid iced drinks if you are traveling in an area with questionable water. Most people are aware that they should stick to bottled water in certain countries, but they often forget that a getting a soda or tea with ice is just as bad. Request your beverages sans ice to avoid potential stomach discomfort.

Minimize the likelihood of swollen feet during air travel by moving about the cabin as much as possible. Immobility contributes to swelling of the feet, as well as to indigestion. If feasible and available, always consider choosing an aisle seat to facilitate access to the cabin without disturbing your fellow passengers.

If you are traveling light and planning to wash laundry as you go, use your daily shower as an opportunity to wash your underwear and even your lightweight shirt. It only takes a few moments and prevents you from building up a pile of laundry that needs to be washed all at once.

Do not take your sleep aids until the aircraft has actually left the ground. The last thing you want to do is have a technical issue that requires you to change planes after you have taken sleep medication. Carrying your luggage halfway across the airport while trying not to fall asleep is not a pleasant endeavor.

When traveling on a red eye flight, wear comfortable clothing and bring a pillow, blanket, eye mask, and ear plugs. If you are prepared to rest, you are much more likely to be able to sleep and arrive at your destination well-rested, even if other passengers make noise or put their reading lights on.

Every time you travel, you should be taking a mini vacation. Even if your trip is for business purposes, there is no reason you can't enjoy yourself and have a good time. If you are well prepared it will only add to the experience. You can use the information you've read here so that you always have better trips.
