Have The Time Of Your Life While Camping

By Dorsey T. Emanus

If you are thinking of taking the trip of a lifetime, you should consider camping as one of your vacation ideas. It does not matter if you are thinking of hiking the Appalachian Trail or going to the local campground, the memories of your camping trip will last a life time. Use these tips to help ensure you have a safe and exciting adventure.

If you feel as though you are an advanced camper and what to add a challenge back into the activity, you can look into wilderness survival. This is quite difficult, however, and should only be undertaken by the most advanced camper. This type of trip means only eating food that you catch or find yourself!

Think folding chairs when packing for your camping trip. You will want folding chairs to sit in around the campfire. The best type of folding chairs are those that have a case with a strap. This type of chair makes it easy to tote when hiking or visiting other campers.

One key tip for anyone who is going camping is to take along a compass. Chances are that you will never use it or even take it out of your pocket, but it is better to be safe than sorry. After all, no one ever plans on getting lost do they?

Water is very important when camping. When camping at a campground, there should be ample supply of water available, but on the trail, you will have to carry some with you. If you are going long distances, you should probably carry iodine tablets to sanitize any water you find before drinking. Dysentery can be deadly camping on the trail.

Make sure you have a first aid kit with you. As an alternative, you could pack some supplies in a plastic bag. While hopefully your trip will be free of injuries, you never know. It is best to be prepared so that you can handle anything that happens in the best way possible.

Don't forget the sunscreen. You might not burn easily, or ever, but sunscreen is still important to prevent sun damage, especially when you are spending most of the day outdoors. Sun damage can age you rapidly and even cause cancer, so it is very important to protect your skin.

Sun protection is vital for camping, especially if you're on a beach. The sun rays are much stronger off of the shore. Even if it looks cloudy, the UV rays may still be strong enough to cause skin damage. Keep yourself safe from the sun. Apply a good sunscreen, wear appropriate footwear, wear sunglasses, and wear hats.

If you plan on camping, you should bring along shoes that can get wet. Shower shoes, slip-ons, water shoes, or flip-flops that you don't mind getting wet work best. These can easily be used to walk around a shared shower facility, go to the bathroom at night, go to a swimming hole, or even a pool. They're easy to put on and take off anytime you need.

When you get to your campsite, take your family out on a walk. Particularly if you have children, everyone will need a chance to stretch their legs after getting out of the car. The hike will be a good chance to get everyone excited about the trip and involved with nature.

You can make camping a fun and relaxing way to spend some time out in nature and enjoy all that it has to offer. Use the helpful tips shared in this article and you will have the time of your life next time you go on a camping adventure.
