Buying a Blender

By Steve Hall

There are several different factors you must take into consideration when buying a blender. They do make a great additional to any kitchen and they have many uses. There are a few different features that you will want to look out for depending on how much you want to spend.

You can get immersion blenders which are handheld devices that are very portable. The biggest advantage that these blenders have is that they are very portable and you can use them in whichever bowl you happen to be using. You can even use them while the food is still cooking if you are careful. The counter-top blenders have more power and more functions built into them. They are also easier to use, making them the preferred choice in most kitchens.

The power of a blender will determine the number of different things it is capable of. If you want to do things like crush ice and blend other hard objects like nuts, then you will need more power than if you are using it blend soft foods like bananas. Generally speaking more wattage is better than less, though the price does generally go up with the more power a blender has.

It is usually ideal for a blender jar to come apart into its component pieces as this will make for easier cleaning. Some blenders are designed not to separate the jar and the blades. This makes the blender a bit harder to clean. The jar itself can be made out of plastic or glass. The glass versions are usually a bit tougher and will suffer from less wear and tear when blending harder foods. The glass jar however does make the blender heavier and more cumbersome to move around.

Where a jar is made of plastic, they are usually made from a very durable plastic and most people will still get a long life out of the blender assuming it is not abused too much.
