Things to do and see in Malta

By Harriet T. Brookes

Malta is a small archipelago that sits more or less in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea. It is only 300km2 in size, so it is one of the smallest countries, and the most densely populated on the planet. Because it sits in a strategically advantageous position, many different peoples across history have sought to use it strategically, including the Romans, Greeks, Sicilians and the Knights of St. John. There is a rich and fascinating history on the island, then, and so it is a great place to visit. This article is a brief look at what you can do and see in Malta.

Malta is an island group in the Mediterranean, and so you get all the blue skies, shimmering blue water, and golden sands associated with it. The food is interesting, with influences from Sicily and Spain, you are sure to enjoy the it whether it is a picnic outdoors, or a three course feast in a local restaurant.

The history of Malta is so visible that it is sometimes called, affectionately of course, an open air museum. You can visit countless places of great historical import. From the evidence for prehistoric life to the place where the knights of St. John defeated the onslaught of the Ottoman Empire.

The island also has some amazing natural beauty to offer. Why not take a trip to the Blue Lagoon where the blockbuster film Troy was filmed. You can see shimmering turquoise waters, and take a luxurious swim. It tends to get very crowded in Summer, as it is s popular spot, so it is best to try to swing by early, or just not at peak holiday season.

There is also a good nightlife in Malta that means you do not have to just enjoy things that are centuries old; there is a bustling modern scene too. Paceville and St. Paul's Bay are the places to head to for nightclubs and bars. Malta is an incredible place, with so much to do or sea, it can't disappoint.
