How To Install Outdoor Video Surveillance

By Grace Rivas

Every building should have outdoor video surveillance installed as a security measure to deter thieves and other risks that may be in the area. They also assist in storing and providing evidence to prove that a certain act happened during in an investigation. These cameras are quite easy to install and to use as well. However, you should ensure that you do the installation correctly, or if you are hiring someone, get a professional who can deliver good services.

They should have done such installation previously in other situations. This way, you are sure that they know what they are doing and they will do a perfect job. Get recommendations from people who have had theirs installed before. You can inspect the work that was done and if you like it, then you ask for contact information to get in touch with the expert. Arrange to meet and come up with a plan for the project.

Look for a convenient location that overlooks a large space in your compound or the street. Get a spot right under the roof at the point where it meets the walls. This will provide a nice vantage point as it will be well hidden thus cannot be easily spotted by any intruders. Also, it will be protected from harsh weather condition especially if it is not the waterproof kind of equipment.

The appropriate spot should overlook a large section of an open space or a street. There should be no obstacles like tall buildings or trees in front of the camera so you can capture things from as far away as possible. It should be fixed on a steady object to prevent it from moving around because of wind and other disturbances. This will ensure that a person gets clear images in your footage.

Make sure that you buy a camera that can zoom automatically so that it can capture objects from a further distance than normal cameras. It should be sensitive to objects and flexible enough to follow them as they change direction and position. This 360-degree feature enables it to capture a larger radius of the surrounding.

If you are installing a wired camera, you need to fix wires in a safe way to prevent them from getting spoilt. The best thing to do is to nail them on wooden boards then attach them to the walls appropriately. This will also ensure that you do not cause damage to your walls by drilling many holes into them. If you happen to have a space between the roof and the walls, then you can use that space to pass the cables from inside the house.

Apply for uninterrupted power and internet connections in the case of a wireless camera. This is because you need the camera to relay all the footage to the screen monitors to your computers and PDAs. These support equipment should be well kept and taken care of as well so that all the components can work for the intended purpose.

Get a safe place to store the information from the outdoor video surveillance. This is to wade off any intruders with ill motives so that the information cannot be interfered with. If possible, program the machines to respond to passwords or other security measures.
