Detecting And Managing Female Midlife Crisis

Female midlife crisis is confusing time when women realize that half of their life is gone. The triggers include the death of a parent, children leaving home, menopause, underemployment or unemployment as well as the realization that you hate your current career and have no alternative. Most people assess their achievements by considering their childhood dreams.

Women acquire a strong desire to drastically change their lives. They seek work balance, change of relationships, appearance, career and a different perspective in marriage. They are likely to spend or desire to spend more. It is accompanied by a flood of regrets and thoughts. A history of psychological turmoil is considered a disposal factor. The response and symptoms in each person varies.

Most of the women will show signs at the age of 40-60. There are normal experiences that are likely to occur at that age including death of a spouse and loss of employment. Expenditure increase should not be viewed as part of the turmoil that relates to age. Age is the main trigger for the crisis in question. The period will last between two and five years.

The regrets that characterize the turmoil come from career, relationships, the presence or absence of children, death or aging of parents and physical changes that occur due to age. Women experience regrets that are related to personal roles. While men would buy sport cars at the time, women are likely to change their lifestyle. There is a total emotional shift that is frightening.

Panic sets in because everything seems to be declining at a very fast pace. A person begins to retrace goals or dreams they may have abandoned in childhood or youth. Plans that never materialized cause a lot of remorse. There is fear of humiliation by friends and colleagues who have achieved more. One wants to act and feel youthful despite advances in age.

A lady desires to be alone most of the time or be with specific friends. The negative effect would be turning to drugs or alcohol. Women will turn to acquisition of expensive jewelry, clothes, gadgets and other lifestyle materials. They turn to tattoos and body piercing. Remorse sets in for minor wrongs. She wants to feel and dress like a youth.

In terms of relationships, women begin to engage with younger people. They seek sexual, parental and professional identity by doing that. Parents will overly emphasize the need for their children to perform better in arts, sports and academic. Such preoccupation will take most of the energy, but there are ways of dealing with such issues.

Talking to a therapist or a trusted friend is the best remedy for female midlife crisis. Take advantage of every opportunity you get when you are young to avoid regrets. Consider midlife as a passing season and embrace it. Exercise regular and enjoy a good dietary habit. Take the suggestions that come to mind at this time and work on them. Do not be overwhelmed by the feeling.
