Organic Crops & The Idea Of Outer Space

By Robert Sutter

I believe that organic crops are going to spring a number of different images to life, whether you believe this to be true or not. Most would take into account the idea of vast fields of green with soil that has to be taken care of. However, did you ever think about outer space being a possible location for growth to be seen? This is something that I did not think about until a recent story came to my attention. Now it seems like more and more is starting to make sense.

The Verge reported on this particular matter, saying how NASA may be able to bring crop growth in space to the forefront. To me, those who have been involved in the growth or support of organic crops are most likely going to be able to support the matter as well. There's a tremendous amount of effort that is associated with this movement as well, which is something that goes without saying. However, the weight of this story is substantial, deserving of attention from authorities such as Colle Farmers Market.

The Vegetable Production System is the name of the game and it could prove to be a very viable project. The way that it will work is through six different romaine lettuce plants being helped by pink LED lights as opposed to natural sunlight. However, you also have to think about how these products will be grown in an environment where gravity is nonexistent. The idea of this being done is interesting and it could prove that Earth is not the only area of this level of growth to be seen.

There are ways to bring provisions to astronauts who are in space but they aren't exactly cheap. The article spoke about the matter, saying that it could cost $10,000 to bring them a single pound of food, for example. When you take this into account, it's clear that there is a desire to bring better methods to the forefront and I have to believe that they can be seen in the long term. However, NASA has to prove that their plan in place can yield tremendous results.

When it comes to organic crops, I think most individuals would associate only a particular type of environment best suited for growth. However, it seems like there is much more to consider as far as this matter is concerned. The plans set in place by NASA are easily some of the most intriguing in terms of farming that I have ever seen. If this proves to be a success after December, I have to believe that the level of growth in general will be that much better.
