Learn About The Dyson DC24 Vacuum Cleaner

By Ray Hauser

James Dyson founded the Dyson Company in 1993. The British company primarily makes vacuum cleaners. Dyson developed the innovative, cyclonic vacuum cleaner which doesn't need catch bags. Dust and dirt are sucked up and dumped into a clear, detachable bin. This bin is removed and emptied by pressing a button. It snaps easily back into place.

The DC24 is one of Dyson's best cyclonic machines. This upright, compact vacuum cleaner comes in two models, the multi floor version and the Animal version for homes with lots of animal fur.

The DC24 costs $300 to $400 and incorporates Dyson's "Root Cyclone" and "steering ball" technologies. Standard vacuum cleaners primarily draw debris laden air through small holes and deposit dirt into catch bags. These holes eventually get clogged and disrupt the machine's suction power.

Root cyclone technology completely eliminates this problem by using cyclonic separation. Air is forced into cyclones where it is spun at high speed. The high velocity hurtles all the dirt and debris out of the swirling air and into a transparent catch bin. This machine doesn't need expensive catch bags and there is no loss in suction or cleaning power even after a lot of use. The DC24 is rated at 115 air watts.

The DC24 also makes use of another great Dyson innovation, the steering ball. This unique technology makes maneuvering the machine simple and easy. Regular vacuum cleaners use fixed wheels for locomotion which is great for forward and backward movement, but not so great for navigation in tight spots or maneuvering around various obstacles.

The Dyson DC24 eliminates steering issues by using a ball which rotates around itself. This extraordinary feature allows the DC24 to vacuum and clean places that are nearly impossible to reach with a regular vacuum cleaner. The ball also houses the machine's electric motor. This design feature lowers the vacuum cleaner's center of gravity adding to the DC24's versatile maneuverability.

The DC24 uses a brush bar covered with nylon bristles for extra cleaning power. This bar spins at ninety times per second which can loosen and suck up even the most ground-in dirt. The brush bar can be deactivated when vacuuming hard floors or delicate rugs.

The DC24 also comes with a high efficiency air filter (HEPA) to catch particles of dirt and allergens including pollen and mold spores. The filter is easy to remove and wash, if it gets too dirty. This machine is so good at screening out allergens; it has been certified by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

The DC24 also has a reversible wand for cleaning difficult to reach places like stairs and ceilings. A number of useful attachments are included for cleaning just about everything.

Dust and dirt is dumped into a clear catch bin which can be easily removed and emptied. After emptying, the catch bin snaps back into position and the DC24 is ready to use again. The lack of replaceable catch bags adds up to big savings over time.

The DC24 weighs 11.65 pounds and comes with a compressible handle which makes the unit perfect for storing almost anywhere. Since the DC24 was engineered to perfection and put through stringent quality tests, Dyson offers a five year warranty on all parts and labor.
