Information On Ice Fishing Traps

Most people prefer to stay indoors during the winter and enjoy the warmth inside their homes. However, if you are fun loving individual you can choose to brave the cold and go skating or ice fishing. Ice fishermen either hold their fish lines themselves or employ the use of ice fishing traps in their expeditions.

Purchasing a trap for your own use is not so hard since there are quite a variety of these gadgets available for sale today. The numerous varieties of models of these devices have made their prices to reduce tremendously. There are models which costly for as little as ten dollars which is quite affordable.

While drilling many holes, a fisherman is advised to drill them all at once. This would ensure that the noises that would otherwise scare the fish away are all made at once. On top of the auger, one should also carry a small strainer which is useful for removing thin crusts which form after a certain period of waiting.

As much as trapping fish is a recreational activity, it is still regulated by law. Different areas have different rules which govern the way fishermen operate. For example, the number of traps which can be set up by one person is usually known for different areas and also there is need for an individual to obtain a permit for him to fish in certain places.

There are laws which govern the number of traps ice fishermen can place in a given area. These laws vary with different areas and so it is important for one to check with relevant authorities if the intention to install more than a few of these devices. It is always advisable to ensure that you have a license before going out fishing.

Most trap designs use a flag to alert their owners that something is caught on the hook. This flag is often lowered when a fish bites on the bait and is caught by the hook. Hence a lowered flag would clearly mean that the fisherman must get the caught fish from the hook of a line and reset his trap.

Due to the chilly conditions of winter, thin crusts are known to form in the hole after a certain waiting period. This crust must be removed and therefore the need to carry a small strainer with you. The strainer would be useful in breaking the thin crusts which form as you wait for the trap to capture something for you.

As expected the installation of numerous ice fishing traps must be authorized. This means that all fishermen who plan to install many gadgets must seek the permission of the relevant authorities. Certificates or permits are issued to individuals who qualify as per the laid down rules before they are allowed to fish.
