Key Largo Hotels For A Florida Beach Holiday

By April Briggs

Florida will undoubtedly be at or near the top of a list of the world's top beach holiday locations. Every year, millions of visitors arrive on the state's Gulf Coast and Atlantic beaches for a stay in a nice and sun-drenched beach community. One of these locations is the Florida Keys, and that is what keeps Key Largo hotels packed full all year round.

The City of Key Largo, located on an island of the same name, is at the northern end of the upper Florida Keys in Monroe County. The thing that makes it stand out amongst a whole string of similar sunny beach communities is its length and the long string of unbroken beaches. Not to mention the proximity to both Miami and the Everglades.

It's very popular as a base for vacationers dividing their time between Miami's urban pleasures and the 1.4 million acres of natural beauty and wildlife in the Everglades National Park. There's also the awe-inspiring John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. This is why this place is called the world's diving capital.

Choosing a hotel requires visitors to consider price, amenities, availability and other such factors. But it might also be helpful to look at locations. As a start, get a handle on the island's layout and how people arrive here.

This is a very long and thin island, connected to Florida City on the mainland through two bridges. One is the Overseas Highway coming in through the middle of the island, and it then turns to follow the coast and the beaches. The second bridge is on Card Sound Road at the north end. Most good beachfront hotels here are along the Overseas Highway, either on the beach or very close to the water.

So anyone driving in here looking for a place to stay should use the highway, and not enter from the Card Sound Bridge at the north. Visitors will start bumping into all the top beachfront lodging choices immediately at the point where the highway turns after entering the city. It's possible to further pinpoint the location based on the itinerary.

So visitors heading for the Everglades will find it easier to get there as they drive further south along the highway. On the other hand, divers, snorkelers and other sundry underwater adventure seekers can explore the coral reef and admire the huge aquarium with a fully reconstructed coral reef inside it if they are closer to the island's middle or the north end. This means a place to stay close to where the highway swings to follow the coast.

As for amenities, most properties here offer everything from refrigerators to microwaves, cable and Wi-Fi in-room. Free coffee or tea is also quite common, along with continental breakfasts. An outdoor swimming pool, free parking, laundry, room service and a concierge should be available to help make the stay easy and comfortable for guests. Regardless of a visitor's choice of hotel, it's a given that a stay in Key Largo is going to be a highly memorable and fun-filled beach holiday.
