DFW Airport Service Shuttles And Connections

By Edna Booker

When it comes to DFW, travelers have a choice on how to move between terminals. Although, unless holding a ticket, the Airtrans system is off limit as it is housed inside security gates. Although, as the DFW airport service shuttle buses run every few minutes, there are two options for ticket holders.

While most DFW shuttle buses run within boundaries of the complex, there are now connections to other areas by way of light rail. When it comes to Arlington, there is also limited bus service from one of shuttle stops.

As a result, locals and tourists now take these trains on a regular basis. The new rail lines have also increased the number of people finding work. For, while there was no way to travel between these areas without a car in the past, all now service different transit centers and locations. For example, the train to Fort Worth makes only a few stops, one being that of the Intermodal Transit center which houses Amtrak, Greyhound and city buses. Whereas, the other line focuses on downtown Big-D with stops in the Arts and shopping districts, ending at the downtown Amtrak station.

For those wising to stay at or near DFW, the Grand Hyatt within one of the terminals is a great option. The hotel offers the only gourmet coffee bar, cocktail lounge and restaurant outside security gates at the complex. Whereas, when desiring to stay just off-site, the Hyatt Regency while still offering shuttle service is often less expensive than its counterpart inside the terminal.

There is also a shuttle service between gates known as Airtrans which has been in operation since the inception of the complex in the mid-late 1970s. The airtrans system includes driverless trains which operate between gates. As such, those riding the system must have a valid airline ticket as the entrance to the service is located inside the security gates.

Still, as there has never been any form of mass transit in the DFW metroplex, these new options have made it easier for locals and tourists to visit more attractions than in the past. While there is now a bus to and from Arlington, the schedule remains quite limited, especially for those wishing to attend games or visit amusement parks which operate well outside transit hours. For most, the best way to handle a trip to an event in Arlington using mass transit is to book a hotel for the night of the event, then travel back to the airport the following day.

Another nice feature of the DFW Grand Hyatt is the coffee bar, lounge and gourmet restaurant. All of which can be accessed by individuals with or without an airline ticket as along with the hotel. When it comes to baggage claim and meeting friends and relatives, all baggage claim areas of each gate are located next to elevators leading to either the parking garage, rent-a-car shuttles or shuttle buses.

All features which make DFW one of the best and most organized complexes to transverse in the world. While having the status of the largest airport in the world during early existence, it has now been overshadowed by many larger ones. Still, it remains one of the most friendly and easily accessible regardless of past history.
