Fun St Maarten Activities To Try On A Visit

The Caribbean island of St. Martin has two separate areas, with St. Maarten occupying the southern half. This part of the island has a number of attractions to draw in visitors, with many taking the opportunity to spend time there. Those that do can choose from an extensive selection of St Maarten activities that will make a stay enjoyable.

Its island setting means that water plays a big part in the pastimes that locals and tourist can enjoy. Dipping your toes in the Caribbean is easy to do at the many beaches around the coast and tranquil waters at a number of locations are ideal for swimming. It is easy for those that want something a little more energetic to find this, with some of the water fun available including kite surfing, stand-up paddle boards and canoeing.

Getting out on the water is also relatively easy to do and this provides the chance to try scuba diving. There are a number of diving clubs on the island and these will take novice and experienced divers to a number of sites around the coastline. Anyone that gets in the water has the chance to see some of the local marine line such as rays, crabs, and turtles. There is also the chance to visit a shipwreck or find some brightly colored shells.

It is also possible to charter a boat to get on the water and have a fishing adventure. Some of the deep sea fish that can be caught in the Caribbean include tuna, sailfish, and marlin, to name just a few. Most companies offering fishing trips know the waters well and can take visitors to the best spots for getting a bite and hauling in a big game fish.

Keeping your feet on dry land provides the opportunity to enjoy a few different sports. St. Maarten is home to a lovely eighteen-hole golf course that anyone can play. Those that like riding can get on horseback to see the countryside of a nature park. A different way of riding around the nature trails is on bike and these can also be trekked on foot.

Sightseeing is a definitely an activity that visitors should try to do on the island. This allows them to take in a few historic locations with the Amsterdam and Willem I forts being a couple of these. The main town of Philipsburg also has a number of great attractions to take in during a tour. These include the Courthouse building and a museum documenting the history of the area.

The duty free shopping on St. Maarten means that buying some gifts for yourself and others is affordable to do. The main retail area to visit is Front and Back Street in the town of Philipsburg. The stores in this area are stocked with a variety of clothing, jewelry, and scents that can be bought as mementos of a visit.

The child-friendly activities at St. Maarten Park make it a great family destination. It is home to a zoo, where kids can see a variety of local and exotic animals. The playground at the park is huge and children will find this a fun place to run around and play on the wide assortment of outdoor gym equipment.
