A Trip From Panama To Colombia By Boat

By Eloise Hewitt

A cruise between these two regions is with no doubt among the greatest world trips. The journey from Panama to Colombia by boat, which takes approximately two days, overshadows any trip by road or air. It is characterized by sailing around the magnificent white sand and isles bounded by swaying palm trees and incredible beaches full of white sand.

The three major factors that can impact a trip are the weather, the captain and the watercraft mates. When the weather is windy with turbulent seas, the trip can be delayed, also if there is no wind during open sea sailing the time to one destination can be prolonged.

The food stuff for carrying will be needed to be bought from the city of Panama as it is affordable and they have plenty of supplies. Snacks are mostly voluntary and unwanted unless it is a must for you to take them between meals. Most snacks are in form of fresh fruits. Some craft provide a lobster for food, others charge an additional lesser charge for it and others fail to provide it at all as a conservation measure due to over-fishing.

Most of the trips take four to five days to sail from Panama to Colombia. Weather is always a major factor when it comes to sailing. The length of the entire trip can be prolonged if the weather is bad. When it rains you may have to stay for another day. With no wind during open sea sailing, it also takes longer to travel. Hostels have to be booked ahead of time to allow people to rest and enjoy the islands. If it happens to rain the captain will offer an additional day to your trip. To avoid inconveniences have a flexible schedule.

Many of the cruisers travel following a strict schedule, so to be on the safe side being on time is always mandatory. Always ask when your vessel is leaving in advance so that you can have an idea when the watercraft is leaving before hand. Normally the list of sailings of each day will have the boats name, the date and port of departure.

The vessels are spacious and offer each and everyone on board adequate space for sleep. You can sleep on shared beds with someone but it will still be comfortable. Many of these trips are typically for backpackers on a budget, therefore the accommodation is usually not luxurious, spacious or private. The best thing captains always have an idea of how to make the boat spacious. Most sail boats are small and do not have much room to lie down but never the less this provide nice ventilation and ease access to the outside deck.

Size, quality of services and the captain are among the factors that determine the cost of travel. It is well noting that a cheaper boat does not mean that the trip will be of a low standard but rather means the captain is the one with low costs.

Sometimes the captain need to get enough passengers before they live, so until that happens your trip is delayed. These problems happen and it is good to be informed and expect them on your trip.
