Best All Inclusive Resorts In Puerto Plata

By Arline Bradley

Puerto Plata is the capital city of the province bearing the same name in the Dominican Republic. A hugely popular resort town, there are 100,000 hotel rooms. In a market this size, how do find the best all inclusive resorts in Puerto Plata?

The two biggest holiday destinations in Puerto Plata are Costa Dorada and Playa Dorada. Costa Dorada is a short drive inland, while Playa Dorada is located opposite the beach. The area is served by Gregorio Luperon International Airport, which is a few miles east of the area where all the action is.

All inclusive plans include at least three meals per day, all soft drinks and maybe some alcoholic drinks. The plan also includes gratuities. Many of these hideouts are located near the sea and may also include non-motorized water sports as well as other sports and other services. An all-inclusive destination resort provides shopping and entertainment. It's a complete home away from home; once the guests settle in, there is no need to go anywhere else.

A destination resort is ideal for families with children. The kids can take part in activities organized by trained resort staff while the parents do their own thing either prowling around town or topping up their suntans on the beach. Seniors and individuals with reduced mobility also appreciate having everything they need in one place. If visitors want to leave the resort, they are obviously free to do so. Puerto Playa is rich with interesting things to do.

The adventurous spirit might want to take the city tour, which includes a cable car ride up the side of a mountain, Isabel de Torres. The mountain stands almost 800 meters and houses a botanical garden at the summit. There is also a replica of the Christ the Redeemer statue that is seen in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. Other landmarks include a rum factory and an amber museum. It is also possible to visit Fort San Felipe, one of the country's oldest standing buildings.

Amber is a type of fossil in which resin from certain trees is exposed to extremes in temperature and/or pressure. Encased within the fossilized resin are often insects and other wildlife. The amber that is found in the Dominican Republic is rich in these organisms. As a result, scientists have been able to map out the ecosystem of the ancient tropical forest. The Dominican Amber Museum houses specimens of amber, a semi-precious gem.

The Dominican Republic is the home of Brugal Rum, created in 1888 by Andres Brugal Montaner who came from Spain. The original wooden wagon that carried juice from the sugar cane is still in use because of the unique characteristics of the local terrain. Visitors may tour the factory.

One of the advantages of an all inclusive plan is it makes for ease of budgeting. By playing one price for all meals, beverages, gratuities and other amenities, all the traveler has to plan for is extra shopping, tours and activities. There is a lot more to the island of Hispaniola than rooms and restaurants. There are tours, cable car rides, museums, forts and a rum factory to visit.
