Corporate Travel: DIY Or Outsource?

By Katherine Wong

In the corporate world, planning a corporate travel can be a difficult and arduous endeavour. Business trips are pretty imperative to business enterprises as such corporate travel managers put much effort into this stressful endeavour. In fact, this job almost feels like there's an endless list of things to consider, such as the transportation, the hotel lodging, the food, and the hectic schedules among others.

The issues of organising a corporate travel event are not exclusive to big businesses. In most cases, small business owners find it harder to create travel preparations just because of the mere fact that they have to do it themselves, over everything else that they need to do. Nevertheless, even with the stress, most small business enterprise owners and large corporations favor to keep corporate travel preparations in-house.

Hands-on business travel management has its advantages. First, is that you'll be personally aware of the details of the trip because you arranged it yourself. Second, you'll save yourself from the fuss and inconvenience of dealing with third parties. Lastly, you will cut down the expenses because you do not have to seek the services of travel agencies to arrange your business trips therefore, you can strictly stick to your financial plan.

On the other hand, others prefer hiring travel management companies. These are companies that specialise in all forms of travel arrangements, either leisure or corporate. There are also certain advantages in going this route. Primary is the reduction of stress. All the hassle is taken away from your shoulders. It is definitely easier, for example, to find one travel company in Singapore than to find and talk to airline companies, car rentals, hotels, conference rooms, among others.

You have the option between in-house business trip management and travel agency services. Whatever you choose both have its advantages and disadvantages so better select wisely. Weigh the advantages and disadvanatges and take your time in deciding.
