About Machu Picchu Iguazu Falls Tours

By Dominique Martin

All these breath-taking destinations of South America are a very good reason for visiting this part of the world. There are different types of tours organized in this area, and Machu Picchu Iguazu Falls Tours are probably among the most exciting ones. They are interesting, educational and really unique.

Iguazu falls are simply spectacular. Eighty meters high and three kilometers wide series of amazing cascades, placed side by side in one long, semicircular form is absolutely stunning view. You could most certainly say that these lovely waterfalls are among the most amazing ones in the world.

The Iguazu River forms the north boundary of National reserves and the National park in Argentina and the southern boundary of Iguacu National park in Brazil. These extraordinary falls span the border between these two countries. Typical wildlife found in this entire area includes jaguars, grand anteaters, tiger-cats and howler monkeys. Over three hundred species of birds live here.

The falls aren't only visually attractive. They are acoustically breath-taking as well. This entire area is amazingly beautiful, with luxuriously green and lush vegetation and these constantly rising mist clouds. The variety of plants, including endemic ones, is really amazing. All in all, this place need to be seen.

A guided visit to famous Machu Picchu is also included in the tour. Made in fifteenth century, probably by the emperor Pachacuti, this beautiful city is one of the most interesting places to see here. It was inhabited for maybe a hundred years or so. Besides being damaged by time, weather and seismic activities, it is very well preserved. Even the sacred rocks are still there, thanks to the fact Spanish did not know about this city.

Over the centuries, the city was forgotten and surrounded jungle grew over the site. In 1911, it was finally discovered by Hiram Bingham, an American historian lecturing at Yale University. Hiram wrote numerous books about this forgotten city and the most famous one is the one called The Lost City Of The Incas.

The site was first declared as historical sanctuary, by the Government of Peru. After that, UNESCO put it on their World heritage list. Although some parts of these walls had to be reconstructed, the city is still in really good condition. This was a great civilization, an this architectural jewel is the best proof for that.

It is still quite unknown why it was build in this particular spot and with what purpose. There are so many theories about that. In early days, it was thought that it could be the Lost City.Espiritu Pampa, the real Lost City was found maybe eighty kilometers from Peru's capital, of course, but other theories can still be heard. Some believe it was built as a royal retreat, and some that this all landscape is sacred.

The site is placed above the bow of the Umamba River. Inca traditional rope bridge leads to the secret entrance. The walls are built of polished dry stone, using sophisticated Inca's techniques. Some parts had to be reconstructed to their original shape. This certainly is one of the most important and visited archaeological sites in South America.
