The Story Behind "Childhood Unbound: Authoritative Parenting for the 21st Century."

Ron said that kids are different now because they live in an exponentially different world. Technology had now made constant communication possible. This change, he believes, happened around the mid-90s. The result is that kids are now more open, and, in fact, parents would rather have kids talk back rather than keep things to themselves.

Ron talked about how parents should make sure that they were not the "second family" after the peer group and pop culture. In truth, kids still want to stay connected with their parents. They also want undivided attention from their parents without parents multitasking or thinking of 50 things at the same time. It's a myth, he said, that kids don't want to interact with parents.

His book, "Childhood Unbound: Authoritative Parenting for 21st Century," helps parents do away with obsolete parenting styles and it offers essential advice on ways to be a great mother or father in a new age of fast technological development and puzzling social norms.
