Texas: Why It's A Great Place To Live

By Pammy McGrath

If you are searching for a great place to call home, Texas might be exactly what you are seeking. This vast state offers a little something for everyone, and the population continues to grow year after year as people flock to cities and towns throughout Texas. Here are just a few reasons why you should consider making Texas your home base.

As they say, the only certainties in life are death and taxes. However, Texas residents at least do not have to pay state income tax which can be a great way to increase your disposable income, save for retirement or bulk up that college fund. It's true that there are still property taxes and sales taxes to be paid, but most states levy income tax, sales tax and property tax, so why not eliminate at least one of these irksome payments?

Education is a big priority in Texas and there are many excellent universities and trade schools throughout the state, offering degrees in everything from astrophysics to zoology and everything in between. Texas public elementary, middle and high schools serve nearly five million children every year and Texas has more high school students that qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program than any other state in the nation.

Texas is a well-known hot spot for football, and Texas love to cheer on their high school teams and college teams, as well as one of the two professional NFL teams in the state. Beyond that, there are NBA teams in Houston, San Antonio and Dallas, two WNBA teams, major league soccer, Major League baseball and hockey. This is just the tip of the iceberg as there are tons of other more obscure sports to enjoy all throughout the state.

Sports isn't the only attraction that residents enjoy and each region of the state offers something interesting to enjoy. In Texas Hill Country, one of the most widely visited Texas regions; you can enjoy the sights and sounds of San Antonio or Austin as well as the charming towns and villages throughout the 25 counties that are included in the area. There are tons of wineries, antique shops, lavender farms, historic sites and museums, annual festivals and much more.
