Sailing On A Boat From Panama To Colombia

By Harriet Porter

The holidays are here and a 5 day cruise might just be the right thing to blow your mind away. Imagine a 3 day sailing adventure through breath taking palm tree Panama islands with sandy beaches and a 2 day tour from San Blas, Colombia to the spectacular fortress city of Cartagena. A ride on a boat from Panama to Colombia is just what you need.

Scary stories used to about scary events at the Gringo trail are but old fables of the past. Your safety through this cruise of a lifetime is as guaranteed. So put all doubts aside and start planning for this all amazing trip.

Missing such an opportunity would be, by far, the greatest regret of your life. Aside from the serene sea view and star carpeted skies to marvel at, exciting activities await you including swimming the clear waters, snorkeling over the pristine corals and skinny dipping with the fish. The friendly Kuna Islanders will more than welcome you to their world of culture and heritage.

The trip price covers essentials such as water, food, departure fees and taxes. Transport costs will not be included in this. The captain takes care of all the immigration requirements, after which you will be set to go. Equipment such as snorkeling and fishing gear are provided in the vessel, but it is best to get your own gear before you set off. Also ensure that you carry enough money as there are no ATMs once you leave Panama City.

The daily meals on the boat will change from boat to boat and from one day to the next depending on the captain. Delicious fresh sea food will make for great delicacies for the 3 daily meals on the vessel. If you happen to be a vegetarian, no worries, just let the captain know a bit earlier and your needs will be met. Just to keep things fun, you can always carry some alcohol and some snacks.

There are many departure points are at the San Blas islands and most leave by themselves. These present a costlier option but they give you less time on the road and a lot more time on the boat. Since this trip is all about sailing, this is a great option. Just make sure to have your hotel arrange for a jeep to pick you up at 5.30 am the morning you set off.

Once you get to the vessel, the captain handles your heavy luggage and stows it away. So you will have to make sure you put the items you need for the tour in a separate bag, preferably a backpack. The captain then collects his fee here and takes passports for processing. Keep in mind though that your passport will be returned to you once you get to your Hostel in Cartagena. Have no worries, this is just the usual procedure. The captain should then take you through safety advice for the vessel before you leave.

Keep in mind that these are not one of those fancy tours so expect tight spaces, less beds and very little privacy. You will spend a lot of time with your boat mates and take part in the boat chores. So keep your mind open, it is all about the experience and make sure you have everything in check.
